How to Unlock High-Security (AES-256) Files

Some modern PDF files (especially those created with Adobe Acrobat DC) use AES-256 encryption. Due to browser security limits, these cannot be saved directly by any online tool. However, you can use our "Print to Unlock" method:

Step-by-Step Procedure:

  1. Enter your password in the tool above to verify it.
  2. If the tool detects AES-256, click the "Print to PDF" button.
  3. A popup will appear—click OK. Your PDF will open in a new secure browser tab.
  4. Enter your password one last time in the new tab to view the document.
  5. Press Ctrl + P (Windows) or Cmd + P (Mac) on your keyboard.
  6. In the print menu, change the "Destination" or "Printer" to Save as PDF.
  7. Click Save. The new file saved to your computer is now permanently unlocked!
